Weekend Warrior Challenge

Screen Shot 2013-08-18 at 7.25.00 PMI’m so excited to share my fun & fabulous weekend as part of the Weekend Warriors challenge hosted by Kallie with But First, Coffee.  Twenty-six bloggers are all taking a letter of the alphabet and planning a part of their weekend around the letter.  Well, I was lucky to get the letter “F” since it represents some of my favorite things (sorry, I might get a little cheesy with the “F” references).

A few highlights from my weekend…

Screen Shot 2013-08-18 at 7.25.20 PMWe started Sunday with the Susan G. Komen 5 (five) -K race.  It was so inspiring to be part of such an amazing event that has impacted and touched so many people.  I love to run; not only is it a great workout, but charity races are a great way to contribute toward causes that are meaningful to you.  And, in the spirit of the letter “F”, I came in 48th place overall!

After running our hearts out, we figured we’d earned a treat.  Enter my favorite sweet treat…

Natasha’s Mulberry & Mott on Country Club Plaza has the tastiest treats, including light-as-air french macarons.  I picked up a box of six to snack on and regain my strength for shopping.

Finally, who can resist some good pre-fall fashion?  I did a little window shopping at Kate Spade for fun weekend clothes and some more serious perusing at St. John for splurge-worthy suits.  Full outfit post to come of my summer-to-fall chambray dress transition.

A few other fabulous “f” moments that didn’t get captured on camera:

  • A great night with friends enjoying fajita quesadillas
  • A little football (that was to appease M)
  • A trip to the farmers market to pick up some homemade french bread and pretty flowers

Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend, too!

Weekend Wish List…

Weekend Wish List

Book: Revenge Wears Prada | Lipgloss: Chanel | Salad: Zesty lemon, recipe below | Suit: J.Crew

The top things on my weekend wish list.  Also, get excited, I’m collaborating with But First, Coffee for the Weekend Warriors series.  My post will be up on Monday, and I had to plan a weekend around the letter “F” (which wasn’t as hard as I first thought!)

Happy Friday and thanks so much for reading!  What’s on your wishlist this weekend?

Zesty Lemon Salad:

Ingredients

16 oz. arugula

1/2 cup cherry tomatoes

1/2 cucumber

1/4 cup feta or mozzarella cheese

3 fresh basil leaves

1 clove garlic

1 lemon (juice + zest)

2 T. olive oil

Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

Clean all vegetables.  Chop up cucumber, basil, and tomatoes, mix with arugula in a large bowl.  Top with cheese and set aside.

Mix lemon juice, zest, and olive oil in a small cup or shaker.  Chop up garlic and add to dressing mix.  Add in freshly ground pepper and sea salt; shake until well-mixed.

Top salad with dressing.  Enjoy!

Staying Cool in B&W

Ah, black and white.  I have always loved this look, and incorporated it into my work lineup with this silk top, black pencil skirt, and pretty pearl and black necklace.  One of the great things about black and white is that you can mix patterns (stripes, polka dots, chevron) and still have it look simple and classy.  As long as one of the two color dominates and you use different textures and fabrics, pattern mixing works great and keeps the look fresh.

Wedding Wednesday

splurge vs. steal: wedding edition
I love a great pair of heels as much as the next petite girl (you rarely see me without heels of some sort).  I was blessed to find the perfect wedding dress off the rack (it was brand new and a size 4, so minimal alterations only!), so with the money I saved on the dress, I’m now considering my shoe options…
I’ve never wanted the traditional wedding shoes…while I think they are beautiful, when else can you wear white satin shoes again?  And then it just seems like another fun item from your wedding that just collects dust rather than something you enjoy forever (the main thing being your husband, obviously).
I love all of these pretty silver sparklers above.  They are all unique and I think silver is the perfect dressy color to wear on the big day (plus…I can always wear them later).  I originally thought about splurging, but there are so many great, less expensive options available too.
Now the tough part…I have to decide.  Which are your favorite?

Ready for Fall…

plum and black DSC_0451 DSC_0447 DSC_0449 DSC_0454

Cool mornings and nights, back to school shopping, and the tease of fall are all that is getting me through August.  September thru December is my favorite time of year.  From fashion and fun fall/winter activities to lots of family time and special holidays, I can’t wait for September to get here!  For now, I’ll just channel fall with cool plum and some animal embellishments on my shoes and purses.  Here’s to staying cool the next three weeks!
