Wedding Wednesday

Happy Wednesday!  I’m so excited for this Wedding Wednesday since I have so many updates to share…including the introduction of my Maid of Honor!  If you follow along on Instagram you know that I was in Chicago this weekend visiting some college friends.  Well, I’m excited to report that my friend Ashton graciously accepted the role of Maid of Honor even though she knows I’m slightly  neurotic and a quasi-perfectionist 🙂

Chicago 004

Ashton and I met in undergrad at Miami University (Ohio) and have been besties ever since.  She is such a wonderful person and the definition of what a friend should be.  I think I knew Ashton would be my maid of honor when she drove over 300 miles spur of the moment to help me out when I sprained my foot and couldn’t even get to the basement in my apartment to do laundry or get around the grocery store myself.  What a great friend!  M and I love her and are so excited to have her celebrate with us on our wedding day.  I’ll share the stories of each bridesmaid after I pop the question with each.

Talking with Ashton reminded me of my next important task: selecting my bridesmaid dresses.  I already picked out my dress (it’s a secret 🙂 ), though I’m sure you will get some clues from the bridesmaid dresses I’m picking.  In true fashion with our chic, 1950’s, Audrey Hepburn/Kate Spade fusion event, I’m looking for a classic little black dress — with a twist (lace or bows preferred).  I’m thinking pearls and black strapy shoes, but I’m not sure yet.  I’ll create an inspiration board once I select the dress.  I’ve been browsing online and have fallen in love with all these styles for different reasons; like the ladylike lace or beautiful back details.  I’ve been looking more for cocktail dresses than a traditional bridesmaid dress since I want something unique and fun.  I know it’s technically an aisle, but it looks a lot like a catwalk, right?

Side note: I know all these dresses are pricey, I would not recommend picking out a dress this expensive for your bridal party.  I’m just having a tough time finding what I like in the under $200 range…that is my mission for August.

B'maid dresses

As far as other wedding updates, we’ve selected the date and venue, met with the pastor for our first counseling session, booked the bakery, planned our candy bar, signed a contract with the photographer, and had a vision-setting meeting with the florist.  All the fun details are coming in to place!  I’ve been keeping track of everything with my Wedding Workplan, which tracks details on my guest list, budget, and detailed planning activities.  You can download a copy of my workplan too.

Wonderful Wednesday: Summer Sorbet & Lucite

summer sorbet 3_edited-1

I was inspired by all of the summery, sorbet colors and the lucite trend during a recent shopping trip this weekend, especially the orange/coral and yellow blend.  These typically bold colors look soft, fresh, and feminine in more muted, sorbet-style tones.  Speaking of shopping, I also couldn’t believe how many stores had fall things out already!  It’s only the beginning of July and I’m already seeing berries and hunter greens filling prime retail locations in stores.  Not that I’m complaining; fall really is my favorite season and I love fall clothes.  The greens and berries were beautiful and a nice change from the recent orange, navy, and browns that have been popular recently.  Looks like I’ll be starting my fall wishlist soon 🙂  For now, though, I’ll enjoy a bevy of sorbet colors and (hopefully) some milder Kansas City weather.
